Most people don't move the barbell past the point where it is parallel to your body, thereby not getting the full results of the exercise. The upper half is supposed to be the strongest section of the bicep curl. You can fix this by doing seated barbell curls. If your goal is to increase your overall muscle mass, you must be willing to establish goals that are feasible.
